HOW TO COMPARE SPREADSHEETS LIKE A PRO
Step-by-step guides for every comparison mode: visual file diff, column set operations, ID-based reconciliation, and report export.
1. VISUAL FILE COMPARISON (COMPARE FILES)
Drop two files into File 1 and File 2. The engine parses all worksheets locally using Web Workers. Side-by-Side view presents both spreadsheets aligned with synchronized scrolling. Modified cells render in soft amber, added rows in emerald green, deleted rows in rose red, and formula changes in deep indigo.
2. COLUMN SET OPERATIONS (COMPARE COLUMNS)
When you only need to compare two lists (e.g. email subscriber lists, part numbers, or product SKUs), select "Compare Columns". Pick the column from File 1 and File 2. The tool computes set intersection, unique left values, and unique right values with instant CSV download.
3. ID-BASED RECONCILIATION (RECONCILE)
For financial ledgers or inventory audits where rows are not in identical order, use Reconciliation Mode. Pick the Primary Key column (e.g. Account Code or SKU) and target Value column. Records are matched by key ID across both sheets, highlighting mismatches instantly.
4. EXPORTING REPORTS
Click "Export Diff" in the toolbar to generate a high-density, printable HTML report suitable for PDF conversion. You can also grab the compare-excel web component snippet for intranet dashboards.
5. PRIVACY & OFFLINE USE
CompareExcel performs 100% of parsing, diff calculation, set matching, and report rendering locally inside your web browser using JavaScript Web Workers and SheetJS. No files are uploaded to a server. Once loaded, the tool works offline — open Network DevTools and confirm no HTTP POST or file upload requests occur.
